Our Story

Our Story

Sharon Viljoen and Rochelle Myburgh (a mother-and-daughter team) believe that ballet is a beautiful and artistic expression of grace, poise, strength, and talent. Ballet tells a story through precise movement and technique. We believe that any form of dance — but especially ballet — instills confidence and a strong work ethic in young students, skills that are so important in today’s world. As with anything worthwhile, this requires proper training.

We are registered with the Dance Academy of South Africa, ensuring that all our students have the opportunity to be exposed to both international and national syllabi.

Ballet Teachers

Sharon Viljoen

Studio Owner of Sharon Viljoen School of Ballet & Ballet Pretoria

Sharon is the Studio Owner of Sharon Viljoen School of Ballet and Ballet Pretoria. She has been an active DASA teacher for more than 38 years in Gauteng and has had the honour of serving on the board of directors at DASA. Sharon also works as an examiner, travelling throughout the country to assess classical dancers. She believes that every child should have the opportunity to receive excellent classical training in a caring and supportive environment. Sharon takes pride in her students’ hard work and in the annual full production shows at the State Theatre. She also enters many students for national and modern medals, helping each student reach their full potential.

Rochelle Myburgh

Studio Owner of Ballet Pretoria (Pre School branch)

Rochelle is the Studio Owner of Ballet Pretoria’s preschool branch. She currently resides in the UK with her family and has been teaching ballet for over 10 years in and around Pretoria. Rochelle has an immense passion for working with children and believes in providing a solid technical foundation for young dancers, starting as early as age 2½ — because yes, even little ones can enjoy ballet! While studying dance at Waterkloof Dance Academy in high school, Rochelle trained in ballet, contemporary, jazz, dance anatomy, and dance theory. She completed her teaching practical with both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Dance Academy of South Africa (DASA). Rochelle strives to mentor young dancers and often returns to South Africa to present workshops, staying involved with the Pretoria community even from abroad.
